And We End It With Greatest: Vince Carter in the Olympics

He takes two dribbles, rises and creates a masterpiece. Words can't describe what I am about to show you. It is THE IN-GAME DUNK OF ALL-TIME and the dunk that I am going to leave with for now. Vince Carter was mad when he came into this Olympics. His favorite coach was fired, his brother was in jail and an associate of his screwed him over some money. It wasn't the best of times. So he decided that he was going to take it out on the competition in the Olympics. With this mindset, and one huge leap from his amazing legs, he cemented himself as the greatest in-game dunker of all-time (apologies to MJ) and promptly ended the career of one Frederic Weis, before it even started. This my friends, is the greatest in-game dunk of all-time. Vince Carter dunking OVER 7'2 Frederic Weis in the 2000 Olympics. Oh my God this is absolutely ridiculous.

Oh yeah, before I forget, I must leave you with another treat from Mr. Carter...Sometimes, as a fan, you yell at the TV. It becomes reflex when something bad or something good happens or is about to happen. In this case, you yelled at the TV because the man about to be dunked on (Alonzo Mourning) did not see what you saw. You saw the dunker (Vince Carter) almost salivating when he saw an open lane with one of the best shot blockers of all-time on the other side of it. Well, I could try to continue to explain it but it's just better in fast motion. Enjoy and come back to visit me sometime soon.

The Great Wall of China

With Shawn Bradley no longer in the league, the league is looking for somone new, someone that the rest of the league can target when they go in the lane. The likes of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Vince Carter and others need that one guy, that when they see him on the schedule, they know that there is a great chance to put someone on a poster. Well, never fear, because the replacement for Mr. Bradley has already been found and he is already putting together a very nice resume. It is none other than Yao Ming, the 7'6 Chinaman. Yao, who is BY FAR a much better player than Bradley, is still in the same predicament. He goes after shots because that is what big men are trained to do but often times, he has failed to complete his goal and it has resulted in multiple highlight reel dunks for some of the games best players. And since this here blog is for those of us who get a kick out of watching others get dunked on, this little collection of dunks will fit you just fine. Watch and observe the funny.

Tim Duncan...I had no idea

Going through my research for this highly entertaining blog, I didn’t realize how many times Tim Duncan had been dunked on. It was actually quite a shock since he is such a respected player in the league who has been good ever since he stepped feet in the league. But, since I don’t like him nor the Spurs, I have to put two nasty dunks that were performed on his head in this here highlight package. One is by LeBron James earlier this year and still stands as the play of the year. The other is by Vince Carter while he was with the Raptors, and this will stand as a prelude to my final blog, which shows Vince Carter performing the greatest in-game dunk of all-time. But for now, you get a piece of LeBron on Duncan and Vince on Duncan. Please enjoy, because you know I did.

Testicular Fortitude

Dunking on someone is rude. Seriously, it truly is. It can embarrass someone who actually has to go home to his family and explain to them what happened. Then after the explanation, SportsCenter decides to replay it at least 47 more times, just to rub it in. Like I’ve mentioned before, the art of getting dunked on is personal. And nothing is more personal than placing your testicular region anywhere near the opponent from the neck up. This goes by many names in the streets and playgrounds in which basketball truly developed this sort of nasty nature about it, but in this case, I will keep it clean. Nevertheless, the example I’m going to use to illustrate my point is one of my personal top five in-game dunks of all-time. Mainly due to the dunker being forgotten among the many great in-game dunkers of all-time – Mr. Scottie Pippen. Early on in Pippen’s career, before he developed the all-around game that made him into a future Hall of Famer, all he really did was dunk on people. He was extremely athletic, with long arms and a great vertical, so he decided to use it against his opponent on a consistent basis. His favorite victims were members of the New York Knicks and in the highlight below he posterizes none other than Mr. Knick himself, Patrick Ewing. This dunk is absolutely vicious and makes every Knick fan cringe whenever they see or think about it. Ha ha, luckily I’m not a Knick fan so I don’t really care how many times it is shown. So with no further ado, I give you one of the nastiest and rudest in-game dunks of all-time. Mr. Pippen, take it away….

And just to be funny, I'm going to add two more dunks that personify Testicular Fortitude courtesy of Kobe Jellybean Bryant. I crack myself up.

Shawn Bradley...poor poor Mr. Bradley

Now, not everyone becomes worshipped in the pantheon of great dunkers. Because with every time someone dunks on someone, there has to be someone getting dunked on. Therefore, this blog entry is dedicated to the one individual who is known all across the realm of basketball as the one man who has been dunked on more than anyone else in history – Shawn Bradley. The man was 7’6 and averaged more than 2.5 blocks per game for his career. But it was the times when he missed the blocks that fans of the game will treasure forever. You see, Bradley made us all smile for we knew that whenever he entered the game, and someone with any semblance of athletic ability saw him in the lane, they were looking for the poster. Some of the nastiest dunks every completed were on this man. Never one to shy away from posters, Bradley always found himself in harms way. Sometimes, as you sat and watched the dunk unfold, you wanted to yell at the TV screen ‘GET OUT OF THE WAY!! IT WILL ONLY ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION!!’ But you could never get out the words and so, he never heard you and instead, went down in history as the biggest and most consistently dunked on individual in the history of the NBA.

Big Man Dunks on Big Man

Through this blog, I plan to showcase the different variety of getting dunked on. In this case, I plan to show the manner in which one big man and can dunk on another big man. In basketball, big men aren't known for their all out athleticism but occasionally, a big man comes along that can take the beauty of what swingmen and guards do daily, and showcase it with the power that embodies a big man. My example for this type of dunk is the Phoenix Suns’ Amare Stoudemire’s poster on the Clippers’ Michael Olowokandi, which coincidentally ended the so-called ‘Kandi Man’s’ career. The best part of the dunk, which sometimes is the case, was the facial expression and reaction of his teammate Stephon Marbury, after the baptism. Watch, enjoy and marvel at the athletic ability of this 6’10 specimen. Then please, graciously give your regards to the career of Olowokandi.

Michael Jordan: The Beauty of the Dunk

You can’t have a discussion about getting dunked on without mentioning Michael Jordan. Jordan dunked on people and made it beautiful. He could dunk on you with power or he could dunk with finesse, either way it would end up on everyone’s highlight reel the next day. What made him even greater was that a lot of his best dunks were in game situations in the half court. Many dunkers need space or a dunk contest to produce magnificent dunks, but Jordan did them consistently in games and provided poster after poster for children growing up in the 80s and 90s. He is the man when it comes to dunking, at least, when it comes to the beauty of it all.
